The starting pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates has been terrible in five starts this season, Joe Musgrove lost four of those starts.The Reds is not even close to intimidating. but the Pirates are even worse. Pirates just simply find it very hard to score on anyone.

Mike Lorenzen who has been primarily used as a reliver this season gets the start tonight. Lorenzen is a good enough pitcher to beat the Bucs. Take the Reds on the moneyline - 130.

Top Favorite to Back: Kansas City Chiefs -9 ½ versus Houston Texans
9 ½ seems like a ton of points. This season’s Houston Texans squad isn’t close to the one that scored 24 points against the Chiefs in the playoffs last season. Deshaun Watson will be without security blanket, while Houston’s defense is a mess.

Sure, J.J. Watt will play strong like he does every time he steps onto the field. The rest of the front seven won’t protect J.J. from double-teams. If the Texans can’t pressure Mahomes, they won’t stop the Chiefs from scoring points on every drive.

Top Favorite to Stay Away From: Baltimore Ravens -7 ½ versus Cleveland Browns
Nobody knows for sure if Lamar Jackson is one-hundred percent. The 2019 MVP suffered a groin injury. Groin injuries are notorious for taking a long time to heal. Not only that, but the Browns are a much better team this season.

The offense should rock it unless Baker Mayfield simply doesn’t know how to play quarterback in the NFL. The defense could be a top five unit if free agent additions Andrew Sendejo, Karl Joseph, and Sheldon Richardson step it up.

That doesn’t mean Cleveland beats the Ravens. It does mean the Browns should keep this closer than the number.

Top Dark Horse to Back: Arizona Cardinals +255 moneyline vs San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers should be one of the best teams in the NFC. In this game, though, the Niners will find it difficult to stop the Cardinals from scoring at least 28. Arizona’s offense should be on of the top units in the NFL.

On Sep. 8, the Cards signed DeAndre Hopkins to a two-year extension. With a happy Hopkins playing on the opposite side of Fitzgerald, Christian Kirk in the slot, and a backfield that includes Murray, Kenyan Drake, and Chase Edmonds, few teams will stop Arizona from scoring TD after TD.

Expect the offense to hang 28 to 35 onto the 49ers. If that happens, the Desert Birds should be close enough in the fourth quarter to challenge for the straight up win.

Top Dark Horse to Back ATS: New York Giants +6 versus Pittsburgh Steelers
Sure, the G-Men won’t play in front of fans. No worries. The Giants are still a home team giving up 6 points to a squad with a quarterback that hasn’t played in a year. Yes, the Steelers are the better team.

But are they good enough to beat the New York Giants by 7? New York will field an improved offense and improved defense. Don’t be surprised if quarterback Daniel Jones pulls a Carson Wentz in his second season in the NFL. Jones has the tools to make the Giants an 8-8 squad.

When it comes to the Week 1 matchup, Pittsburgh’s defense won’t contain a motivated Saquon Barkley while Jones has a much better offensive line to protect him. The defense is also better than it has been in years. The Giants can make this a field goal game.

Boston at Tampa Bay Thursday 6:40 ET
The Rays have dominated the Red Sox this season coming into this contest, taking 5 of 6 games while averaging over 7 runs a game. Josh Fleming has won all three of his starts in his short career. Boston's unfamiliarity with Fleming will make scoring for the BoSox tough.

Free MLB Pick: Milwaukee at Detroit (1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 9)
The Milwaukee Brewers send Corbin Burnes to the hill for this game. Burnes went back to the Milwaukee starting rotation three weeks ago, and he's been excellent since then. In fact, the hard throwing right-hander is coming off back-to-back 6 inning performances where he posted no earned runs allowed in the two outings combined.

Jon Lester and the Cubs continue their series with Detroit. Lester has been a stud on the north side of Chicago for some time now, and will be in bounce back mode after a poor performance against the White Sox in his last appearance. The Tigers will trot out Michael Fulmer, who's ERA is 9.53, most recently getting crushed by the Indians. Give me the sly veteran lefty to put away the weak lumber of the Tigers. Arizona has been playing better baseball as of late, and they need Robbie Ray to pitch better with some of the other injuries they have had to their pitching staff. Ray walked 6 his last time out but showed he had good stuff as he didn’t allow a hit over 5 innings in a 5-4 win over the Padres. Logan Webb is scheduled to be on the mound for the Giants, and the bullpen will be needed because he hasn’t lasted more than 5 innings in any outing this year. David Peralta (.321), Ketel Marte (.337), and Starling Marte (.351) are leading the way offensively, and I think they will help the Diamondbacks get the win.

The Texas Rangers go with starter Lance Lynn in this one. Lynn has been fantastic to start the 2020 season, posting a 1.11 ERA thus far. Lynn has not only been striking out lots of guys, but when he does give up contact it's usually not hard contact as evidenced by the fact he's just 1 of 4 starters that's is averaging more than 1 strikeout per inning and less than 86.0 miles per hour in exit velocity. Lynn is coming off an outstanding complete game performance in his last outing, allowing only 2 hits and no walks, and even more impressive is he did so in hitter friendly Coors Field and

Tampa Bay is 8-1 in their last 9 games overall and 6-1 in their last 7 road games while the over is 5-1-1 in their last 7 games as a road favorite. New York is 6-0 in their last 6 games overall and 47-14 in their last 61 home games. Snell hasn’t been great in his career against the Yankees with an ERA just under six and a 1-5 record in 11 starts at Yankee Stadium as well as a 4.50 ERA in five starts against the Yankees last season. As for this play, I like the home White Sox in this one. The Brewers starter IS Freddy Peralta for this game. Peralta has a poor ERA. The White Sox are going with veteran lefty Gio Gonzalez. He pitched for Milwaukee in 2018 and 2019, and he will want some revenge against his former team. He knows this lineup well and should give the White Sox an edge. Chicago has won five straight games and they are 5-1 in their last six games against the Brewers. Take the White Sox in this one. TAKE: CHICAGO WHITE SOX

Luka Doncic vs James Harden. A classic matchup and I think neither one will sway the outcome. With a long rest, Kristaps Porzingis has totally recovered and will be the difference in this matchup. Rockets Eric Gordon sprained his ankle in a scrimmage, and word out is that he will not play. Without Gordon and his 14.5 points per game, Houston will not be able to match the Mavs firepower.
